Community Engagement

Cargill invests in local communities through economic development, partnerships and giving combined with the volunteer efforts of our employees. Cargill provides corporate support to select national and global nonprofit and nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) that serve communities in which we have a business presence. We support partners working within our focus areas of food security, nutrition, and sustainability. And, our businesses and facilities sponsor employee-led groups, called Cargill Cares Councils, which support civic and non-profit organizations in their local communities.

Cargill Cares Councils seek to recognize issues important to our communities; build effective relationships with community leaders; and work to help improve living standards and promote vibrant, stable communities.

Programs in Mexico

Educampo Mayab Program

“Educampo Mayab” is a program sponsored by Cargill and implemented by the Mexican Foundation for the Rural Development. The aim is to support small farmers from the South cone of Yucatán to increase up to five times their productivity per hectare, using basic social education, technical support, and a technological package.

The Educampo program is recognized nationwide for its success to improve the life conditions of the communities in which it has been implemented.

Tláloc Project

Cargill México works together with Isla Urbana to install rainwater collection systems in homes and schools in areas with limited access to potable water. To date, systems have been installed in 72 houses and 9 schools in Mexico.

Comedor Santa Maria

Cargill supports the Comedor Santa Maria organization through corporate volunteering, financial support and donations for children. So far, more than 3,500 children have benefited from the program.

Food Banks

Cargill Mexico donates white corn, edible oil and sugar products to local food banks.

Reforestamos Mexico

Cargill Mexico is committed to the sustainability of Mexican forests and works hand-in-hand with Reforestamos México to implement its corporate volunteer program. The program is focused on the reforestation of community land and the restoration of regional flora to improve soil health. In September, Cargill planted one thousand trees in Nevado de Toluca National Park.
